And there is a demo now on Steam.

Inscryption, the “dark and disturbing” deck-building horror game from Pony Island and The Hex developer Daniel Mullins, will be released on PC just in time for Halloween on October 19.

Described as a mix of bridge-building rogue-like, escape puzzle and psychological horror, Inscryption – a very expanded version of the Mullins Sacrifices Must Be Made game jam title – traps players in the cabin of a sadistic alien known as Leshy. , forcing them to play a mysterious game using cards acquired through “draft, surgery, and self-harm”.

In its simplest form, the object is to play cards, each representing a woodland animal, on a board made up of four columns in two rows – your cards are played on the nearest row while your opponent is playing cards. ‘back. Each card will attack and take damage from all adjacent enemy cards at the end of a turn, but if there is no card to block an incoming attack, players will take damage directly. Whoever damages his opponent enough will win the game.

This, however, is only the beginning, and Mullins happily piled up the sinister convolutions from there. In order to put your cards into play, for example, you’ll likely have to sacrifice some of the cards already on the board, forcing you to plan for power and capacity to use. Then there are seals that imbue the cards with different abilities – perhaps granting them the power to fly over the defensive line to immediately launch a direct attack, or making them unkillable so they don’t leave the board when you stick a dagger into their hearts.

And then there are the other complications, including weird rule-twisting totems, weird new events as you progress along a branched map, and even the occasional table break while you are allowed to explore Leshy’s decidedly unsettling cabin. It’s as strange as it sounds, but if your curiosity is piqued, Mullins has posted a very welcome demo on Steam.

And if you like what you see, the full version of Scryption will cost £ 16.79 (with 10% off pre-purchases) for Steam on October 19th. Inscryption is also available as part of a pack containing the acclaimed previous titles from Mullins, The Hex and Pony Island, at a 42% discount, which means you can get the full collection for £ 16.24.
